How are VR, AR, MR, and XR different?

All four terms refer to immersive technologies, but they differ in how immersive they are. VR is a 100% virtual world completely cut off from reality, AR overlays virtual information on top of reality, MR lets virtual and real objects actually interact, and XR is the umbrella concept covering all of these technologies.

The metaverse keeps evolving

The metaverse is expanding well beyond gaming into education, business meetings, concerts, shopping, and many other industries, with the underlying hardware and software advancing rapidly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a VR headset to enter the metaverse?

No — many metaverse platforms are built to be accessed from a smartphone or PC, and a VR headset is usually just an optional upgrade for a more immersive experience.

Does virtual real estate in the metaverse have real value?

Virtual real estate is a new kind of asset whose value depends heavily on a platform's popularity and user base, so it carries high volatility and risk that should be carefully weighed before investing.
