What is a public IP address?
A public IP address is the address your internet service provider (ISP) assigns to your network, used to identify you on the wider internet. Multiple devices at home or at work (PC, phone, router) usually share this one public IP address.
How is this information determined?
This tool simply displays the connecting IP address and location data that the Cloudflare network sees when it processes your request. Nothing is stored separately on our server, and the check runs again in real time every time you reload the page.
When is this useful?
- Confirming a VPN or proxy is actually connected and routing your traffic
- Whitelisting your IP on a game server, remote access tool, or firewall
- Providing your IP as reference info when contacting your ISP's support
Frequently Asked Questions
Can this IP reveal my exact home address?
No. The location shown here is only the approximate region (usually city-level) registered by your ISP β it cannot identify your exact home address or you personally.
I use a router β why do other devices on it show the same IP?
Devices connected to the same router (network) usually share one public IP address (NAT). Each device only has its own separate, private IP address inside the router's local network.
Will this page show a different IP if I turn on a VPN?
Yes. With a VPN active, this page shows the VPN server's IP and location. If your original IP still shows up, the VPN may not be connected properly.
